The Ojobo Liberation Movement, the OLM, has appealed to the governor of Delta State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to appoint commissioners in Burutu Local Government Area owing to its verse nature and having born two constituencies in the state.

The group argued that compared to its verse economic contributions and strong political participation, the LGA should be considered for two commissioners as it was done to other federal constituencies in the state in the past.

The president of the group, Comrade Timipre Ndoni disclosed this to a Congress news correspondent on Thursday.

The statement reads, “Because Burutu Local Government Area is a Federal Constituency with its vast economic contribution to the state and compared to other federal constituencies in the state that have always produced two commissioners. It is imperative that Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori should correct this imbalance and appoint two commissioners from Burutu South and North, which have two state constituencies, producing two assembly members representing the local government area at the state assembly.

He said, “If it is difficult to appoint two commissioners from Burutu Local Government Area, it’s our sincere appeal that Burutu South should be allowed to produce the next commissioner for equity and fairness because Burutu North has produced the immediate past commissioner for the past eight (8) years of Sen. Okowa’s administration and while still holding tight to the house of representatives seat meant for the Burutu Federal Constituency.”

Ndoni also appealed that the next commissioner be appointed from Oporomor Kingdom in Burutu South, based on equity, fairness, and political balance.

He emphasized, “Of course, it is a known fact that Burutu South has two kingdoms, Oporomor and Tuomo, where presently Tuomo kingdom has held the LGA chairmanship position for the past four years and is presently holding the state assembly position. Hence it’s proper and common sense to micro-zone the next commissioner to Oporomor Kingdom in Burutu LGA.

“As a youth leader and a rights activist, I always stand on the path of justice, equity, and fairness. Hence, we strongly appeal to his excellency to consider the youth of the 30–40 years age bracket in the Burutu South for the commissioner appointment to give the youths sense of belonging which are of the largest population in the constituency,” he added.
