A prominent leader in Edo State Hon. David Osia, has vehemently criticised recent allegations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against the High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.

The Edo leader described the allegations, which accused Tompolo of naira note abuse as a coordinated attempt by detractors to tarnish the reputation of a man widely regarded as a peace icon in the Niger Delta.

Congress gathered that these accusations have sparked controversy, with some elements attempting to exploit the situation to sow discord and undermine the significant progress achieved by Tompolo’s fight against oil theft and proper policing of the oil pipelines crisscrossing the Niger Delta.

However, Osia described these allegations as baseless and an affront to the integrity and legacy of Tompolo. He emphasised that Tompolo had consistently demonstrated transparency and accountability in managing the operations of Tantita Security Services, an organization that had successfully curbed oil theft and boosted Nigeria’s economy by safeguarding oil revenues.

“Tompolo is not just a leader; he is a symbol of hope and resilience for the Niger Delta. His efforts have not only protected Nigeria’s oil resources but also brought about stability in the region, creating opportunities for youth empowerment and community development,” he stated.

Osia further pointed out that Tompolo’s contributions have extended beyond security, highlighting his role in advocating for the establishment of interventionist agencies such as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Presidential Amnesty Programme. These bodies have played crucial roles in addressing the challenges of underdevelopment and neglect in the Niger Delta region.

He accused the enemies of attempting to create a crisis by leveraging the EFCC to advance their agenda, warning that such actions could reverse the hard-won peace and development in the region. He called on the EFCC to approach the matter with impartiality and avoid being used as a tool for political or personal vendetta.

In his appeal to stakeholders and the public, Osia urged everyone to recognize the importance of unity and collective progress. “Those behind these allegations must rethink their approach and work for the greater good of the Niger Delta. Instead of spreading falsehoods and inciting division, we should focus on building the region and supporting those who have made personal sacrifices for its development,” he said.

Osia concluded by reaffirming his confidence in Tompolo’s leadership and commitment to the Niger Delta’s welfare. He assured the public that Tantita Security Services would continue to operate with integrity and dedication to its mission of protecting Nigeria’s assets and fostering peace in the region.
