Residents of the Sourama/Souroudegbene Community in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State have expressed growing concerns over abandoned school projects, lack of government teachers, and inadequate essential services in the community.
The chairman, Mr Odidi Andrew in a statement signed which a copy was sent to newsmen in Warri on Monday appealed to their leader, the speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, RT. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor to prevail on the governor of the state, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori to address the community’s concerns.
However, they emphasised the pressing need for action regarding several unfulfilled promises, including the establishment of a community school, installation of street lights, and construction of a concrete jetty.
Community representatives highlighted a critical need for government teachers, a health centre and timely completion of the abandoned School Facilities. They pointed out that over 200 children in the community are reliant on informal teaching provided by a local pastor and his family, who have stepped forward to educate the youth despite the challenges.
The community had also raised concerns about flooding, which has been intruding into their homes, and called for interventions to fortify the area against such natural disasters.
The community leaders have called on the speaker of the Delta State House Of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor to prevails on the governor of the state, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori to come to rescue the community from such endless embarrassing situations.
“We urgently request your assistance, sir,” the community leaders stated. “With your support in bringing qualified teachers and further developing our infrastructure, we can ensure a brighter future for our children.”
