Niger Delta women under the auspices of Ijaw Women Rights’ Protection Forum has called on the governor of Delta State, His Excellency Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, the Commissioner of Police and the Department of the State Security Services, DSS to prosecute the killers of Mr Jerry in Warri in the penultimate week.

The group in a statement signed by its national president Comrade Hilda Amogha said arresting some few suspects alone can’t bring justice but giving them a thorough trial with a term of sentence and adequate compensation would provide the needed justice for the deceased family, adding that the deceased was the sole bread winner of his family.

The group insisted that the arrested suspects and others to be apprehended should not be given soft landing through political influence by state actors as no one has the monopoly of violence.

Amogha equally urged the police to arrest Itsekiri youth who allegedly shot four Ijaw youths in Warri early September. According to her, the suspects should be made to face punishment for attempted murder, unlawfully possession of firearms and conducts likely to cause breach of public peace.

The statement read, “We call on the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside relevant security agencies, to urgently investigate the tragic death of Mr. Jerry, from Odion Urhobo community, who was allegedly killed a few days ago. The perpetrators of this heinous act must not go unpunished. We demand that the killers be identified, apprehended, and brought to justice without delay.

“The sanctity of human life must be protected, and no community should be left to live in fear or uncertainty in Warri and Delta State at large.
“We urge the State Government, security operatives, and community leaders to ensure that peace and justice prevail in the Odion Urhobo community”.

“Justice for Mr. Jerry is justice for all”, the women emphasised.
