Resident Doctors Dismiss Government’s Claim of Meeting Their Demands, Say Nothing Has Changed
By Diafa Doubra, Warri.
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has strongly rejected the Federal Government’s assertion that most of the union’s demands have been met, describing the claim as “misleading and completely untrue.” In a statement released on Thursday, the association said none of its 19 key demands including improved welfare, payment of outstanding allowances, upgraded working conditions, and the provision of basic medical equipment had been fully or verifiably addressed by authorities.
According to NARD, hospitals across the country remain overwhelmed, under-equipped, and short-staffed, leaving doctors burnt out and unable to deliver the quality of care Nigerians deserve. The association accused government officials of attempting to downplay the crisis instead of confronting the realities facing the health sector. They also warned that the government’s continued inaction could push more doctors out of the country, further deepening Nigeria’s chronic brain drain.
