The Okpokunou Federated Communities Warri Branch has thrown its weight behind High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo and Tantita Security Company Ltd, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ignore calls for decentralization of the pipeline surveillance contract.

In a statement, the community’s Urban chairman and secretary, Comr Emmanuel Custom Waretimi and Comr Afore Theodore, respectively, described the calls for decentralization as “a sign of envy” and “not in the best interest of the unity of the Niger Delta”. They questioned why some leaders are fighting for the contract, asking if it’s because High Chief Tompolo is an Ijaw man.

The community praised Tantita’s performance, citing its contributions to employment, infrastructural development, empowerment, and engagement of oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta region. They noted that the company has made significant strides in securing pipelines, reducing sea piracy, and promoting peaceful coexistence in the region.

The statement also highlighted the benefits received by the Okpokunou Federated Community from Tantita, including job slots and development projects. The community urged those calling for decentralization to instead focus on fighting for the 13% derivation fund for oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta region.

The community appealed to President Tinubu to ignore the decentralization call, emphasizing that the contract was awarded to Tantita due to its capabilities and track record. They also urged other communities benefiting from Tantita to speak out against the calls for decentralization, promoting unity and peaceful coexistence in the region.
