Two Arrested Over Killing of Popular Kano Social Media Political Commentator

Law enforcement agencies in Kano State said two persons have been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of a popular political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu.

Ibrahim, who is known on social media for his strong views on politics and religion in Nigeria, was found dead with his throat slit in his residence in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area, on Monday, September 9.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the command received a distress call about the incident on Monday at about 11:30pm.

“Operatives of the Kumbotso Police Division promptly responded to the scene and rushed the victim to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano, where he was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor,” the statement said

The police said the Kumbotso Divisional Police Officer have arrested the two suspects in connection with the unfortunate incident.

“The suspects are currently in custody undergoing interrogation. The Command has intensified efforts to apprehend any other persons who may be connected to the crime,” the statement added

The command said forensic procedures were ongoing, while statements were being obtained from relevant persons to establish the circumstances and motive behind the attack.
