The Gusau Emirate Council has showcased centuries-old Hausa cultural practices as part of efforts to preserve the traditional heritage of the people and pass it on to younger generations.

The cultural display, organised during the coronation ceremony of the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulqadir Bello II, featured district heads, village heads and representatives of different communities across the emirate.

The exhibition brought together various traditional practices associated with the Hausa people, highlighting the cultural identity and historical heritage of the emirate.

Speaking on the initiative, the Emir said the display was organised to ensure that cultural practices inherited from previous generations were not abandoned but preserved for posterity.

He said many of the traditions had been practised for thousands of years and deserved deliberate efforts to protect them from extinction.

“We have organised this to ensure that our cultural heritage, which has been practised for thousands of years, is preserved.

“As you have seen, different Hausa traditional practices were displayed here in Gusau. I have great plans for preserving our cultural heritage in this emirate, although I will not disclose everything now. People will see what I intend to do,” he said.

The Emir said the involvement of district and village heads in the exercise was part of efforts to encourage collective responsibility in safeguarding the emirate’s cultural identity.

He noted that traditional institutions had an important role in preserving indigenous customs, values and practices, particularly through community participation.

The Emir also called on residents to fear Allah, embrace prayers and promote peaceful coexistence, expressing optimism that sustained prayers and submission to God would help address the security and social challenges facing the state.

He urged the people to recognise that ultimate power rested with Allah, who alone could determine human affairs.

“I am optimistic that with our total submission to God, He will intervene to bring sanity and peaceful coexistence to our state,” he said.
