By Micheal Chukwuebuka
The Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo has sentenced a 47-year-old man, Samuel Adesina, to 30 years’ imprisonment for raping his 14-year-old biological daughter and committing incest.
Adesina, who is originally from Ondo State, was found guilty of the offences, which were committed at his residence on Aka Itiam Road, Uyo.
During the investigation, the convict reportedly admitted in an extra-judicial statement that he had been having sexual intercourse with his daughter since May 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Delivering judgment on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Justice Gabriel Ette convicted Adesina on two counts of rape and incest after considering the evidence presented before the court.
In reaching the verdict, the judge relied on the provisions of Section 135(1) of the Evidence Act 2011, as amended, in evaluating the evidence against the defendant.
Consequently, the court handed Adesina a 20-year prison sentence for rape and an additional 10 years for incest, bringing his total jail term to 30 years.
