The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, has continued his familiarisation tour with a visit to the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Major General Felix A. Mujakperuo (Rtd.), CFR, mni, and the Sapele Area Command, where he sought stronger collaboration with traditional institutions and community stakeholders to address security challenges.

During the courtesy visit to the royal palace, CP Erale paid homage to the monarch, who is also Chairman of the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers, and sought his counsel and support in tackling crime across the state.

The Commissioner expressed concern over the growing challenges of cultism and drug abuse, urging traditional rulers to work closely with security agencies to protect communities from their harmful effects.

He also reiterated his directive that cases of sexual offences must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law, warning against informal settlements of such matters.

Addressing security concerns ahead of the ember months and forthcoming elections, Erale assured the monarch of adequate security coverage, political neutrality and zero tolerance for electoral malpractice.

In his response, the Orodje of Okpe described the people of the kingdom as peace-loving and expressed delight over the Commissioner’s posting to Delta State. He pledged his support for the police and promised to encourage other traditional rulers to strengthen cooperation with security agencies in combating crime.

The monarch also expressed confidence in the Commissioner’s ability to address the state’s security challenges.

At the Sapele Area Command, CP Erale charged officers and men to uphold discipline, professionalism and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties. He emphasised the need for intelligence-led policing and strict adherence to established rules of engagement.

The Commissioner also called on community leaders and other stakeholders to support crime prevention through timely intelligence sharing and active collaboration with the police.

He stressed that effective security requires collective responsibility, with traditional institutions, residents and security agencies working together to safeguard lives and property across Delta State.
