By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 5, AIG Monday Agbonika, has charged the Delta State Police Command to intensify intelligence-led operations against cultism, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
Agbonika gave the directive on Thursday, November 5, 2026, during an official familiarisation visit to the Delta State Police Command, where he was received by the Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale.
The visit featured an operational briefing, an address to officers and men of the Command, and a strategic engagement with stakeholders, including representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA).
During the briefing, CP Erale presented an overview of the state’s security situation, the Command’s operational achievements, recovered firearms and ammunition, as well as ongoing investigations.
The AIG commended the Command’s efforts in combating crime but urged officers to strengthen intelligence gathering, prioritise crime prevention and enforce relevant laws to discourage cult-related activities.
Addressing personnel, Agbonika reiterated the Inspector-General of Police’s directives on community policing, professionalism and public accountability. He warned officers against corruption, extortion, abuse of power and other forms of misconduct, stressing the need to respect human rights and observe due process in the discharge of their duties.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve police welfare and directed the Command to maintain political neutrality while ensuring adequate security ahead of forthcoming electoral activities.
At the stakeholders’ engagement, the AIG emphasised the importance of credible intelligence sharing and sustained cooperation between the Police and communities in preventing crime and enhancing public safety.
In his response, CP Erale assured the AIG that the Command would fully implement the Inspector-General’s directives, intensify operations against cultism, kidnapping and other violent crimes, and strengthen partnerships with community stakeholders.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights, assuring residents of sustained efforts to protect lives and property across Delta State.
