A CALL FOR INCLUSIVE GOVERNANCE IN BURUTU LGA, BY BUKU EBULOUS

The income accruing to Burutu Local Government Council from the Federal Government is meant for the benefit of all bonafide indigenes. The Chairman of the Council has a duty to extend developmental and people-oriented projects to every nook and cranny within the domain.

A Chairman of such a large Local Government is bound to face pressure from various groups. These pressures are necessary to promote transparency and ensure the justifiable spending of the limited financial resources available, in order to create tangible development for the people.

I believe a government only makes steady progress when there are pressure groups and opposition parties. They serve as a strong instrument that pushes a benevolent and elected leader to deliver the dividends of democracy promptly, so that the people can give him the accolades of good governance.

We must also remember that a good leader is a servant of the people. Such a leader must be attentive and responsive to the yearnings of his or her subjects.

Government policies may favour some people more than others. For this reason, we should not throw abusive remarks at those who oppose the government simply because they feel neglected. It is not ideal for beneficiaries of the system to insult those who oppose it. The best approach is to encourage the leader to carry the aggrieved along. This will promote smooth governance in the Local Government. Indeed, one good turn deserves another.

Everyone is aware of the current financial income coming into the Council treasury through Federal Allocation. With this, the people expect to see tangible projects that match the high income. Therefore, those opposing the government are not acting out of selfish interest alone. Rather, they are pushing the government to deliver the dividends of democracy to the Council.

At this juncture, I wish to advise the Chairman of Burutu Council to deploy wisdom and extend his benevolent reach to all sectors that need attention. Public funds should be spent judiciously for the overall interest of the people.

To those acting as sycophants, I urge you to stop writing insultive words against opposition groups. Instead, encourage the Chairman to do what is right, so that good governance can be enjoyed by all.
