Apprehension in Warri as popular Maciver Market in Warri Delta State has been gutted by fire.

Congress gathered that the fire incident happened between the hours of 1:20 am to 2:00 am on Monday.

An eyewitness, Mr Tony Demebide said the inferno may have been likely resulted by combustible items such as “paper, cellophane, and other domestic materials.”

He condemned the actions of suspected thieves who took advantage of the fire outbreak to cart away products from stores in the guise of rescue.

“I saw for myself young boys/men in the guise of trying to save the situation, carting away with properties and other items. I saw some arguing over ownership and who picked it up first,” he said.

It would be recalled that the incident is coming less than a week after the fire outbreak at the neighboring Ogbe-Ijoh market which had been described the most devastating fire incident ever recorded in the history of the market.
