ASUU Strike: Our colleagues are into early marriage, prostitution – students cry out

Leaders and students of tertiary institutions of South East have given the Federal Government at most a two- week ultimatum to end strike in public universities by the Academic staff Union of Universities (ASUU), adding that the female colleagues are now into early marriage and prostitution with unwanted pregnancies.

This was occurred in Abakaliki during a demonstration that was organized by students of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI) in collaboration with the South East Student leaders.

John Kingsley Oke, Chairman, joint campus Council (JCC) Ebonyi State University, said he was not happy about the way the government was handling the strike issues.

According to him, it was not a good thing seeing students sitting at home, because of this, some are into prostitution, some are getting pregnant with unwanted pregnancies through early marriages and prostitution.

Because of this some are even joining fraud which is known as ‘Yahoo’ some are into illegal stuffs in the street, we are tired, they lamented.

He also urged the federal Government to negotiate with ASUU, so as to make things right.
