The Ijaw Publishers’ Forum (IPF) has celebrated the birth anniversary of Chief Barrister Smooth, fondly called the “Paddle of Niger Delta” as it pays unscheduled visit to him at his Music Studio in Warri, Delta State on Tuesday.

The delegation which was led by its national chairman, Comrade Austin Ozobo, showered praises and heart-warm tributes on the revered Niger Delta artist, the “Born Singer” who used his musical prowess to shed light on the challenges faced by the Ijaw and Niger Delta people.

While describing Chief Barrister Smooth as a “Musical Journalist,” the group narrated how he had been a source of inspiration to Niger Delta agitators through his freedom songs. They credited him for being a catalyst in the rise of many valiant and influential individuals across the Niger Delta.

Commending his unwavering commitment for speaking truth to power, they further described Smooth as the “Music Prophet, Freedom Fighter, and liberator”.

The media arm of Ijaw nation also extended invitation to Chief Barrister Smooth to grace its Inauguration Ceremony scheduled for February 29, 2024.

While responding, the “Paddle of Africa” expressed gratitude for the Media Initiative aimed at coordinating and enhancing the media industry in Ijaw land and beyond.

However, Smooth preaches peace and unity among the Ijaw Publishers, cautioning against internal conflicts and division within the body. He also pointed out red zones that must be treated with wisdom to avoid unwanted conflicts.

The “Born Singer” pledged not only to attend the Inauguration Ceremony but also to provide any affordable support deemed necessary.

Meanwhile, he promised collaboration with the Ijaw intellectuals to further the cause of the Ijaw Nation and Niger Delta at large.
