•Says act amounts to abuse of court process

A leading contender of the Oporomo kingship stool in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Newstyle Ogiren has written to the governor of Delta State, RT. Hon. Sheriff Oborewori to demand the immediate removal of the traditional ruler of the Oporomo kingdom, HRM. Dr. Ekioemi Oweiagbe from the subsidy palliative committee having been restrained by the court of law.

This is according to the statement he signed personally and forwarded to newsmen in Lagos on Friday.

He argued that it amounts to an abuse of the court process to appoint a traditional ruler who has been restrained from parading and performing his traditional functions following pending litigations in court.

The litigant emphasised that the government of Delta State should be neutral or seek peace among rival groups and not to take sides, adding that the appointment of the restrained king into a subsidy palliative committee in Burutu could incite bad blood in the kingdom.

It was gathered that the state high court sitting in Ughelli in SUIT NO. UNC/94/2023 between MR. NEW STYLE EGIRENWAREKAEMI AND DCN BARR KINGSLEY OTUARO (His Excellency, Deputy Gov Of Delta State), HRM (DR) OWEIAGBE JOHN EKIOEMI, CHIEF BARE ETOLOR, CHIEF TUDUO GABRIEL AND OTHERS, on 8/5/2023, granted an order of Interim Injunction Restraining the 1 2″ 4″ 5″ 6″ 7″ & 8″ Respondents from having dealings with the 3 Respondents about payments of Allowances, Royalties etc either through his agents, privies, servants etc pending the determination of the motion on notice herein.

The ruling reads, “And for such further or other orders as this Honourable Court may deem fit to make in the circumstances”.

Ogiren stated that it was amazing that the state government being a legal institution condensed so low as to disrespect court ruling on the subject matter.

However, he said Governor Oborewori should have respect for the court ruling and remove the king from being a member of the subsidy palliative committee to avoid litigation against the government of the state.
