A young girl identified as Rukevwe has allegedly shot by a suspected Policeman, yet to be identified, at Oriah/Abraka by the entrance of the Secondary School, on Saturday.
Delta State based activist Derrick Agberen, the National Coordinator,
Initiative for Social Rights Concerns And Advancements(ISRCA)
AKA, No Justice, No Peace said he had reached out to the DPO Abraka Division; SP Fabian Ayameh and also, the Delta State Police PPRO; DSP Bright Edafe and had complained to them for onward action.
He however, called on the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Surajudeen Olufemi Abaniwonda, to immediately probe into the matter to fish out the Police officers at Oriah junction, and further persecute the same where necessary.
He stated at press time that the DPO Abraka Division; SP Fabian Ayameh, said that the Policemen suspected to have been on the said spot were not men from the Abraka Police Division but were attached to an ongoing road construction project in the area by a politician (name withheld).
Activist Derick maintained that as much as the Police Officers have been identified, they should be invited, detained and investigated; singling out the trigger-happy Policeman, who shot at Miss Rukevwe, leaving three bullet wounds on her body.
“We’ll stop at nothing until we get Justice,” he added.
The statement reads, “A family friend, named Precious, the boyfriend of Rukky, called me to narrate the sad incident. He told me how they were taking the U-turn while driving, but suddenly heard someone hitting his vehicle from behind to stop and then he came down, and saw they were policemen and he frowned at the way they approached him. According to him, he entered his vehicle and drove off. That he suddenly heard a gunshot, which penetrated through his car, directly at his girlfriend from the back, at the passenger’s seat. Currently, she is in the theatre and being stabilised at Donflux hospital opposite the Big Taste fast food, a private facility, where she’s fighting to survive the bullet wounds”, he noted.
