Delta CP Begins Familiarization Tour, Strengthens Stakeholder Engagement in Asaba

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, has commenced a statewide familiarization tour of Area Commands, beginning with a strategic working visit to the Asaba Area Command aimed at strengthening community policing and enhancing security collaboration.

The visit brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), human rights organisations, honorary mess members, sister security agencies, vigilante groups, anti-cult volunteers, and other community representatives.

During the engagement, stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Delta State Police Command in its efforts to improve security and maintain peace within the Asaba Area Command.

Addressing the gathering, CP Oyeniyi stressed that effective policing requires collective responsibility and sustained collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. He noted that mutual trust, intelligence sharing, and active community participation remain essential tools in combating crime and ensuring public safety.

The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing, professionalism, adherence to the rule of law, and the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights.

He also cautioned against the misuse of social media, urging stakeholders to use digital platforms responsibly and avoid spreading false information that could undermine public peace and security.

In a separate meeting with officers and men of the Asaba Area Command, the commissioner charged personnel to remain disciplined, accountable, and courteous in the discharge of their duties. He warned against corruption, extortion, and other forms of unprofessional conduct, while encouraging officers to be proactive in crime prevention and deepen community engagement.

CP Oyeniyi further reminded officers of the Nigeria Police Force’s social media policy, directing them to strictly adhere to its provisions in all online engagements.

Expressing appreciation to stakeholders for their continued support, the commissioner said the familiarization tour would further enhance operational effectiveness, strengthen police-community relations, and improve the delivery of quality policing services across Delta State.

The visit marks the beginning of a broader engagement strategy by the Delta State Police Command aimed at fostering stronger partnerships with communities and improving security architecture throughout the state.
