The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has convened a strategic stakeholders’ meeting between Sterling Global Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) and leaders of Umuseti Ogbe Community in a bid to prevent tension and promote lasting peace in the area.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Kwale, followed a notice of protest reportedly issued by the Umuseti Ogbe Community against the oil company over unresolved concerns affecting the host community.
According to a statement released by the Delta State Police Command, the engagement was aimed at addressing grievances raised by the community while ensuring peace, security, and public order are maintained.
The Commissioner of Police was accompanied by senior security officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, the Area Commander of Ozoro, the Divisional Police Officer of Ozoro Division, and Major Emmanuel Omo-Africa, the military officer overseeing SEEPCO security operations.
The Umuseti Ogbe Community delegation was led by the Prime Minister of the community, Chief Okwa Akwaligbe, who represented the Okpara-Ukwu, Sunday Ebo Ogwe. High Chief Pedro Akpe also spoke on behalf of the community, outlining the concerns and grievances of the people.
Representing SEEPCO was the company’s General Manager for Community and Security, Col. Karmveer Singh, who responded to issues raised during the meeting and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to maintaining peaceful relations and mutual understanding with its host communities.
Addressing both parties, CP Yemi Oyeniyi emphasized the importance of national security and the need for peace and stability within host communities. He urged both the company and community leaders to embrace dialogue and understanding as the pathway to resolving disputes.
The police commissioner noted that the meeting was not intended to apportion blame but rather to provide a platform for both sides to openly express their concerns and work towards a lasting solution.
He further assured that the Delta State Police Command remains committed to sustaining peace, security, and harmonious coexistence between SEEPCO and the Umuseti Ogbe Community.
Following the deliberations, CP Oyeniyi, alongside representatives of the Police Command, SEEPCO officials, and community leaders, embarked on an inspection tour of the Umuseti Road in Kwale to assess some of the issues raised during the meeting.
Both SEEPCO representatives and leaders of the Umuseti Ogbe Community commended the intervention of the Commissioner of Police and expressed readiness to continue dialogue toward an amicable resolution of the dispute.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, on May 14, 2026.
