Delta CP Orders Maximum Security for Churches, Mosques, Correctional Centres
By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the state to provide maximum security for churches, mosques, schools, and correctional centres as part of measures aimed at strengthening public safety and maintaining law and order.
The directive was issued during a high-level strategic meeting held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the State Command Headquarters, where the police chief met with members of the command management team, Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, DPOs, and Heads of Departments.
Addressing the senior officers, CP Oyeniyi emphasized the need for strict adherence to the rules and regulations guiding the conduct of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force. He warned that professional misconduct by any officer would not be tolerated, stressing that supervising officers would be held vicariously liable for the actions of personnel under their command.
The Commissioner also expressed concern over what he described as inadequate community engagement by some DPOs. He consequently directed all divisional heads to actively engage critical stakeholders within their jurisdictions and intensify public sensitization efforts on security awareness and crime prevention.
According to the police boss, recent trends indicate an increase in murder cases across the state, making it imperative for community policing strategies to be strengthened. He urged DPOs to educate residents on peaceful conflict resolution and the dangers of allowing disputes to escalate into violence and loss of life.
As part of efforts to enhance security around vulnerable and strategic locations, CP Oyeniyi ordered Area Commanders and DPOs to identify all schools, churches, mosques, and correctional facilities within their areas of responsibility and ensure regular security assessments and patrols around such locations.
The Commissioner further directed all officers of the command to maintain a high standard of appearance and professionalism. He instructed that personnel must always appear neat, properly dressed, and wear their official name tags while on duty.
He warned that any officer found without a name tag on their uniform or approved tactical vest would face disciplinary action, adding that their supervising officer would equally be held accountable.
The meeting forms part of the Delta State Police Command’s ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency, strengthen community relations, and ensure the highest standards of professionalism among officers and men of the command.
The statement was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, on behalf of the Delta State Command in Asaba.
