The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Judiciary to enhance the administration of justice and improve security across the state.

The Police Commissioner made the appeal on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge of Delta State, Hon. Justice Theresa Obiajulu Ogochukwu Diai, as part of efforts aimed at deepening institutional cooperation between both arms of the criminal justice system.

Speaking during the visit, CP Oyeniyi emphasized that the Police and the Judiciary occupy critical and complementary positions in ensuring justice, fairness, and the rule of law prevail in society.

He noted that effective synergy between both institutions remains essential in the fight against crime and criminality, stressing that criminals often exploit any perceived division or misunderstanding between law enforcement agencies and the courts.

According to the CP, while the Police may occasionally experience operational shortcomings, such issues should not create unnecessary friction between the two institutions. He appealed for sustained understanding, cooperation, and mutual support in advancing public safety and justice delivery in Delta State.

The Commissioner further commended the cordial relationship already existing between the Delta State Police Command and the Judiciary, stating that their shared objective is to reduce crime to the barest minimum and maintain peace across the state.

In her response, the Chief Judge of Delta State, Hon. Justice Theresa Obiajulu Ogochukwu Diai, appreciated the Commissioner of Police for the visit and expressed confidence that his leadership style and approach would further strengthen the relationship between the Police and the Judiciary.

She also expressed optimism that the continued partnership between both institutions would improve judicial processes and enhance the administration of justice in the state.

The visit also featured discussions on security concerns, prosecution procedures, judicial processes, and sustained institutional collaboration geared towards ensuring a safer Delta State.

The statement was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, on May 12, 2026.
