The Operatives of the Nigeria Police Intelligence Department in a Response to the Ughelli/Ohoro Forest ambushed that led to the killings of policemen by bandits has made significant strides in the ongoing efforts to combat crime and restore proper security in Delta State.

According to a press statement issued and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Headquarters,
Abuja, Ref No. CZ.5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.6/165, on May 21, 2024, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, had reaffirmed commitment to reduce criminality to the barest minimum following the recent tragic events in Ohoro Forest in Ughelli Delta State, where some police operatives were ambushed and gruesomely murdered leading to the loss of thirteen (13) police rifles to the criminal suspects, adding that the FID-IRT had successfully recovered ten (10) of these arms.

Meanwhile, the statement read further that the gallant operatives of the FID-IRT engaged the suspects in a gun duel which led to the neutralization of some of the suspects and the police were successfully recovered ten (10) of the stolen weapons.

However, the inspector General of police while addressing the press, also emphasised that the Nigeria Police had effectively curbed the kidnapping menace that had plagued the Lagos-Ibadan expressway with the successful arrest of six (6) members of the notorious kidnapping gang that was terrorising the area. The suspects are currently in custody, cooperating with ongoing investigations.

“The IGP has reassured the public that the Police will continue to employ all necessary measures to combat criminal activities across the country, because the safety and security of Nigerians remain the top priority and the Nigerian police are committed to maintaining peace and order.

“We are determined to diligently carry out proactive efforts to contain criminality in my leadership and create a safe and secure environment for all citizens”, he added.
