Delta Police Arrest Five Suspects, Recover Firearm and Ten Bags of Suspected Indian Hemp

The Delta State Police Command has recorded fresh operational successes in its ongoing campaign against crime and criminality, leading to the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of a locally made revolver pistol, dangerous weapons, and ten bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the arrests were made in separate operations conducted by police operatives across the state.

In the first operation, carried out on May 30, 2026, at about 5:30 a.m., operatives of the Surveillance Team attached to the Asaba Area Command intercepted three suspects during a routine patrol behind the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) premises in Asaba.

The suspects, identified as Musa Sule (22), Moses Sunday (26), and Osama Ibrahim (25), were stopped and searched based on reasonable suspicion. During the search, police recovered a locally made revolver pistol along with other dangerous weapons. The suspects were immediately taken into custody, while the recovered exhibits were secured for investigation.

Police authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and other weapons.

In a separate intelligence-led operation on May 29, 2026, at about 4:00 a.m., operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) intercepted an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon with registration number BEN 982 TE along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway.

The vehicle was occupied by two suspects, Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, popularly known as “Big Joe.” A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of ten bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp, carefully concealed within the vehicle.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspected illicit drugs were being transported from Edo State to Awka, Anambra State, before the suspects were intercepted by the police.

The two suspects have been arrested and are currently in police custody, while the recovered substances have been secured as exhibits. Investigators are working to uncover the full extent of the trafficking network and identify other individuals connected to the illegal operation.

Commending the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism, and dedication to duty, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state.

The Police Commissioner also warned individuals involved in unlawful possession of firearms, drug trafficking, cultism, and other criminal activities to desist from such acts or face the full consequences of the law.

The Delta State Police Command reiterated its resolve to sustain aggressive operations aimed at ensuring the safety and security of residents while dismantling criminal networks operating within the state.
