The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of four suspected members of a gun-running syndicate linked to the unlawful possession and movement of a Beretta pistol recovered at a transport park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, on May 1, 2026.

The breakthrough, according to the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, followed an extensive intelligence-led investigation conducted by operatives of the Command across Bayelsa and Imo states.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing in Asaba, the Commissioner disclosed that the first suspect, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, was arrested in Bayelsa State on May 4, 2026. He was apprehended alongside a friend and roommate whose phone was allegedly used to facilitate communication during the purchase of the firearm.

Investigations revealed that Chukwuemeka allegedly purchased the Beretta pistol from Amadi Princewill for ₦290,000 and subsequently sold it to a suspect identified as Desmond, who remains at large, for ₦380,000. Police said Desmond arranged for the firearm to be transported to Effurun and contacted Oghenemine Ogidi, now deceased, to collect and deliver it to Sapele.

Following Chukwuemeka’s confession, operatives tracked and arrested Amadi Princewill in Imo State on May 15, 2026. During interrogation, Princewill reportedly confessed that he acquired the firearm from another suspect, Amadi Felix Chibuike, for ₦200,000.

Acting on the information, police operatives extended their investigation and arrested Amadi Felix in Owerri, Imo State, on May 16, 2026.

The fourth suspect, Clifford Boleyelefa, was also arrested as part of the operation, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to four.

According to the Police Commissioner, preliminary investigations indicate that all the suspects are members of the notorious Black Axe confraternity. He stated that they will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

CP Oyeniyi further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, including the fleeing suspect identified as Desmond.

The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal firearms and dismantling criminal networks operating within and beyond the state.

The Commissioner urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible information that could assist in preventing crime and enhancing public safety.
