Delta youths elect new leaders, move to embrace investors, seek youths’ inclusion in governance

Leaders from various youth bodies in Delta State met in Effurun, Delta Central Senatorial District on Saturday 15th July 2023 under the auspices of the Coalition of Delta Youth Leaders Forum to speak in one voice.

The youth body comprised current youth leaders from Communities, Kingdoms, Ethnic nationalities, NGOs and Non-indigenous youth organizations in the State.

According to a statement co-signed by the President of the group, Comr Gometi Crested, Secretary Comr. Gbubemi Awala and Publicity Secretary Comr. Ebidouwei M. Miyenpirigha said the rationale behind the formation of the umbrella body named “Coalition of Delta Youth Leaders Forum” was to build a well-structured and united youth body to closely work with the Government, Security agencies, Traditional rulers, NGOs and relevant Stakeholders of Delta State to critically, holistically and objectively strategize ways to improve on the current Security and Social-economic situation of Delta State and Nigeria at large.

The Youths further recalled that Delta State used to be a commercial and highly industrialized state which attracted numerous local and international investors in recent years but had currently degenerated into a state of squalor.

The statement reads, “This ugly situation happened because we fail as a people to take deliberate steps to provide a safe and conducive environment for investors to strive. It’s to this effect the body was formed as a means to unite youth leaders across the 3 Senatorial districts to achieve the following aims and objectives.

“(a). To liaise with Government, Security agencies, Traditional rulers, NGOs and other relevant Stakeholders in and outside Delta State to strategize a way forward and take deliberate steps to create a Safe, Conducive and Peaceful environment to attract local and international investors to Delta State and Nigeria at large.

“(b). To promote Socialization, Unity, Security and Peace among Deltans.

“(c). To instil sound social morals and cultural values among the youths.

“(d). To foster unity among the ethnics Nationality in Delta State.

“(E). To train and instil quality leadership skills among the youths of Delta State

“(f). To enhance Youth empowerment and training.

However, the forum elected 20 youth leaders from various youth bodies/ethnic nationalities which reflected the three senatorial districts in the state to achieve its set golds.

Congress learnt the executives were elected to pilot the affairs of the body for two years as stated in the body’s constitutional framework, while they looked forward to constituting LGA executives without delay to enable the body to swing into action fully.

The elected positions included President (Delta Central), two
Vice Presidents, one for Delta North and another for Delta South, Secretary General, Treasurer, Woman Leader, Director of None indigenes, Financial Secretary, Programme Officer, Media and Publicity Secretary, 4 Welfare officers, Legal Adviser,
4 CSOs, and PRO.

The vice president representing Delta South, Comr. Austin Ozobo advised all youth leaders in Delta South to unite and prepare for the next meeting scheduled to hold in two weeks in Olomoro, Isoko as agreed by the general assembly and also charged youth leaders in attendance to put aside all political and tribal sentiments and join hands to build the Delta State of our dream.
