Ekpetun Declares Interest in Bayelsa Assembly Seat Ahead of 2027 Elections
By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, Barrister Torke Johnson Ekpetun has formally accepted calls to contest for a seat in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, representing Ekeremor Constituency 3.
Ekpetun, a native of Amatu 1 Community in Ekeremor Local Government Area, said his decision follows sustained appeals from grassroots organisations, community groups, and key stakeholders who have urged him to step forward and provide quality representation for the constituency.
In a statement announcing his intention, the legal practitioner acknowledged the prevailing challenges within the political and electoral system, including concerns over financial and structural imbalances. However, he emphasized that his decision to join the race is driven by a commitment to deliver what he described as “visionary and revolutionary representation and lawmaking.”
He noted that his ambition is anchored on core principles of capacity, character, competence, service, and the protection of human rights, which he believes are critical to effective governance and legislative performance.
Beyond his legal career, Ekpetun is widely known for his advocacy in human rights. He currently serves as Bayelsa State Coordinator of Volunteers and Supporters with Amnesty International Nigeria, where he has been actively involved in promoting justice and accountability.
His leadership experience also spans youth development platforms at both national and international levels. He has held roles within the National Youth Council and the Commonwealth Youth Council, and in 2013, he served as a Commonwealth Youth Ambassador under the Commonwealth Secretariat in London.
Political observers note that his declaration may reshape the dynamics of the Ekeremor Constituency 3 race, particularly among youth and civil society stakeholders seeking reform-oriented leadership.
The 2027 elections are expected to draw significant interest across Bayelsa State as aspirants begin to position themselves for key legislative and executive offices.
