The Ijaw Monitoring Group (IMG) reaffirmed its commitment to the Niger Delta region by empowering small business owners and individuals with disabilities at the Microfinance Grants Day in Lagos, Nigeria, held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Mercy Hall in Magodo, Ikosi, Ketu, Lagos State. Over 3,000 beneficiaries received soft loans to enhance their businesses and livelihoods.

Super Comrade Joseph Evah, Coordinator of IMG, emphasised the initiative’s importance in reducing unemployment, fostering self-sufficiency, and creating entrepreneurship opportunities for Niger-Delta indigenes in Lagos. The program, which began in 2002, aimed to counter stigma and drive economic growth.

Evah presented cheques and popcorn machines to beneficiaries, highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit of the Niger Delta people. He called for community organization to qualify for government interventions and emphasised timely loan repayment.

Guest speaker Mrs. Tina Wilfred Igumbor stressed the importance of microfinance grants in enhancing small businesses and contributing to national economic growth. Pst Ebitimi Dio-Posibi lauded Evah’s dedication and urged the government to expand such initiatives.

The IMG’s development efforts aim to nurture emerging sectors and support established ones for increased global impact, with continued support across various sectors.
