Operatives of the FCT Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit have successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt in Byazhin, near Paze Hills, in the early hours of Thursday, June 5, 2026.

A statement from the Command noted that the tactical team promptly deployed to the scene around the Redeemed Church axis after receiving the information. The team engaged the armed suspects while attempting to breach a residential building and abduct its occupants.

The gun battle lasted over 30 minutes but the operatives overpowered the attackers, forcing them to flee into nearby bushes with suspected gunshot injuries.

It adds that items recovered at the scene were one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and seven rounds of live ammunition.

The intended victims who were successfully rescued unharmed were taken to the General Hospital, Gwarinpa, where they received treatment for shock and trauma and later placed under protective observation.

Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, commended the operatives for their swift response, bravery, and professionalism, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements across the Territory.

He also directed intensified patrols in the area and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and actionable security intelligence.
