The Federal Executive Council has in its last meeting approved the Establishment of National Research and Innovation Development Fund and also approved a Council for award and use of Honorary Degrees in Nigerian Universities.

Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa made the announcement while briefing State House Correspondents on the resolutions of the Council’s last meeting in the Education sector.

The Minister said unleashing the capabilities of Research Institutions across the country will help accelerate progress in actualising the one trillion dollar economy.

He said the benefits of the Research, Innovation and Integration will pave way to create a centralised Innovation hub aligned with priorities of National development goals and incentivizing collaboration between the academia, Government and Industry.

The Federal Executive Council also approved a Council for award and use of Honorary Degrees in Nigerian Universities.

This is coming through the adoption of the Keffi Declaration to address issues of awarding Honorary Degrees by Nigerian Institutions to safeguard academic integrity, restore public confidence and eliminate the current trends of indiscriminate and unmerited Conferment.
