Fire update: 216 incidents in Ogun, Lagos, result in 12 fatalities.

The Federal Fire Service Zone F records revealed that twelve people perished in fire incidents in Lagos and Ogun states between January and October.

This was stated on Thursday in Lagos by Mr. Chika Njoku, the Assistant Controller-General for Zone F, as part of an awareness campaign to stop fire incidents before the year-end harmattan.

Njoku narrated that during the time, 216 fire incidents resulted in the rescue of 133 people and the loss of property estimated to be worth N23.1 billion, along with the loss of property valued at N4.7 billion due to fire in the zone.

180 additional people were also saved in the same time frame from various calamities.

Njoku warned Lagos residents against engaging in any activities that might start fires prior to the harmattan.

This briefing’s main goal is to remind and awaken us to our level of readiness so that we can handle this time fairly and leave no room for exceptions.

“We are working to reduce the frequency of fires and their detrimental effects on the people they affect, even though we are unable to completely prevent them.

He urged people to contact the fire department and to take the appropriate safety measures.
