Following the heavy flooding in the Ayakoromo community and other riverine areas in Delta state, the community has resorted to the use of canoe and wooden platforms as Internal Displaced People’s Camp, IDP in the state.

It was learned the community drowned in the flood ravaging the state about a week ago, and ever since no rescue and relief efforts had been made by the state government and NEMA.

Congress gathered that the entire community had submerged, adding that residents are yet to be evacuated by the NEMA and Delta state government.

The chairman of the community Comrade Richard Ebibofa Momoh lamented over neglect by the Delta state government and NEMA, adding that there had not been any Internal Displaced People’s Camp in the whole of Burutu Local Government Area of the state.

He said he was surprised when the secretary to the state Mr. Ukah urged flood victims of the riverine Communities to go to IDP camps.

Momoh asked Ukah to sight the whereabouts of the state IDP Camps in the Burutu Local Government Area.

He blamed Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for not being proactive in issues concerning Riverine Communities in the state.

The community leader who said affected residents are dying of hunger urged the state government to send relief materials to the community and other victims in the LGA without further delay.
