Ghastly road crash kills one, injures 7 passengers in Udu

About one person has been confirmed dead and over seven passengers were seriously wounded in a fatal road crash on Udu Road, Udu Local Government Area of Delta state.

The incident occurred at about 5:30 am at the front of Orogun Brothers filling station in Orhunworun road on Wednesday, October 19, 2022.

It was learned that the accident was allegedly caused by wrong driving and overspeeding, leading to head- collision of A Toyota Hilux and several tricycles.

Sources told Congress newspaper that the accident involved A Toyota Hilux and Two tricycles, adding that the Hilux hits the passengers’ tricycles and ran away.

The sources who said the Hilux was at top speed when the incident occurred, said one person was killed and over seven persons sustained varying degrees of wounds.

Our correspondent who visited the scene saw the corpse lying on one side of the road which is yet to be identified by relatives.

The local police authorities are yet to visit the scene. One of the damaged tricycles could also be seen at the scene by our correspondent.

The wounded passengers had been admitted to various hospitals around the area as the whereabouts of the Hilux and the driver was not known at press time.

The Delta State Police Command spokesman, Bright Edafe could not be reached for comment at the time of reporting.
