By Enekorogha Godbless
There was a fierce gun battle yesterday at Nteje police station in Oyi council between security personnel and heavily armed gunmen in Anambra state.
A report by Vanguard narrated that the fierce gun battle by both parties led to the killing of several policemen at the station. However, the police debunked the report and narrated that one of the gunmen was killed.
The police maintained that the foes fired at them in the station but the foes fled when the operatives put up superior fire back.
The source posited that the foes did not accomplish their mission of setting the police station ablaze. The source also added that the police lost several of their men in the battle.
“It happened in our area and the shooting was too much. Police do not like mentioning losing their members, but I’m telling you they lost a good number of men during the attack.”
According to Ikenga Tochukwu, the police spokesman, most of the arms from the hoodlums were restored to the station.
He noted, “Anambra Police Operatives led by CP Echeng Echeng foiled an attack by gunmen at Nteje Divisional headquarters Oyi LGA.
“The Operatives recovered one type O6 rifle, one magazine and fifty-three live ammunition of 5.56mm and charms,” he said.
Meanwhile, Congress gathered that another police station was also attacked in the Aguata area Tuesday, also the police command disregarded the report.
