By Stephen Asaba-ase
A police officer was killed on Tuesday at NEPA Junction, Umulogho in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State. According to eyewitnesses, the unknown gunmen dragged the officer out of his room and shot him dead.
The attackers, who seemed determined to drive police officers out of the compound, shot sporadically for 45 minutes to scare residents away.
In a separate incident, the gunmen burned down the Otoko Divisional Police Station located along the Owerri-Umuahia road. Two security guards were also killed at Umuelemai in Isiala Mbano Local Government, and vehicles on the premises were set ablaze.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Henry Okoye vowed that the perpetrators would be apprehended and face the full force of the law. He assured residents that the command and tactical force have been deployed to the area to protect lives and property.
