Tuomo community in Burutu Local Government Area was thrown into pandemonium in the penultimate week when a suspected gas pipeline explosion injured several indigenes in the community.

It would be recalled that a crude bearing pipeline belonging to the Nigeria Agip Oil Company, NAOC exploded in Tuomo community about a week ago.

A community source said the pipeline which was assumed to be a gas pipeline, surprisedly erupted and instead of gas flames, it was diesel that was coming out.

The source stated that the community was shocked at the development, narrating that Tuomo and Ayamasa communities’ women and youths moved to the site and began to scoop the oil when a spark which led to the fire explosion occurred on last Monday.

The source narrated, “The community people moved to the site and started scooping the oil. Both Tuomo and Ayamasa host communities took part in the scooping of the oil on daily basis. Though, it was arranged turn by turn among the two communities for convenience.

“It was the turn of Tuomo community on that ill-fated day when the tragedy occurred. Someone was suspected to have on a lighter to smoke cigarette when the explosion which burnt several persons took place. About five persons who sustained a severe burn were among other victims evacuated from the scene”

“They are admitted in Bomadi general and Our Saviour Hospitals. They are recuperating. There was no lost of life. Normalcy has been restored. The fire had been tamed.

“But we will deal with some of our communities leaders and Agip who have been deceiving us that the flow station in our community is gas and not oil to be embezzling the money to personal pockets”, they maintained.
