The Ijaw Women Rights’ Protection Forum, IWRPF, led by Comrade Hilda Amogha, has called on security chiefs to immediately arrest Mr. Alex Eyengho over what it described as “reckless and inflammatory statements” allegedly made against the Ijaw people.

The group further urged the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to urgently intervene and caution Mr. Alex Eyengho to avoid a repeat of ethnic crisis in Warri and its environs.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the women’s group expressed concern over comments credited to Mr. Eyengho in which he reportedly boasted of having enough “tools” to confront the Ijaw nation. IWRPF said the remarks were provocative and capable of inciting ethnic tension in the already fragile Niger Delta.

“Law and emotions are not friends,” Comrade Amogha stated. “Mr. Eyengho boasted that he has enough ‘tools’ to fight the Ijaw nation. Such a statement is not only provocative but raises serious questions. What exactly are these tools he speaks of? We need answers.”

The forum emphasized that the Ijaw people, as one of the oldest and most respected ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta, have consistently shown restraint and commitment to peace. However, it warned that this peaceful disposition should not be mistaken for weakness.

“The Ijaw people are one of the oldest and most respected ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta. We have consistently demonstrated patience, maturity, and a commitment to peace. However, no group should mistake our peaceful nature for weakness,” Amogha said.

IWRPF further criticized Mr. Eyengho for making such comments despite his status as an elder, arguing that leaders and public figures have a responsibility to promote unity rather than division.

“It is disappointing that an elder who should be promoting unity and peaceful coexistence would choose words capable of creating division and tension. Public figures must understand that their words carry weight and consequences,” the statement read.

The group therefore called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to urgently call Mr. Eyengho to order before his utterances further inflame passions. It stressed that respect for all ethnic nationalities in Delta State must remain non-negotiable if peace and development are to be sustained.

“We therefore call on the Governor to intervene and caution Mr. Eyengho before his utterances further inflame passions. Respect for all ethnic nationalities must remain non-negotiable,” Amogha added.

Reiterating the vigilance of the Ijaw people, the forum said the community remains united and alert to developments in the region. It vowed to continue defending its dignity and insisting on fairness, justice, and mutual respect.

“The Ijaw people are vigilant, united, and fully aware of developments around them. We will continue to defend our dignity, protect our interests, and insist on fairness, justice, and mutual respect at all times,” she stated.

Concluding, Comrade Amogha appealed for restraint and responsible speech from all stakeholders in the Niger Delta.
“Enough of the threats. Enough of the provocations. Let wisdom, responsibility, and peace prevail,” she said.

However, attempts to reach the Delta State Government for an official comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
