The 9th Zonal Executive Council of the Ijaw Youth Council, Western Zone, held its maiden meeting on Thursday, June 6, 2024, and issued a communique highlighting key resolutions and declarations.
The council expressed gratitude to national officers, stakeholders, and members for their participation in the elective convention, commended the peaceful conduct of the election, and reaffirmed the zone’s unity and commitment to peace.
The communique was signed by Comrade Nicholas Igarama, Chairman, Ebi Joshua Olowolayemo, Esq., Secretary and Comrade Tare Magbei, Information Officer, IYC Western Zone.
The leadership vowed to engage stakeholders and members to consolidate the existing peace and warned against attempts to cause division. The council also urged Ijaws in Edo and Ondo States to participate in the ongoing voters registration exercise ahead of the governorship elections.
Furthermore, the council called on the governments of Delta, Edo, and Ondo States to prioritize development in Ijaw areas and urged contractors to return to abandoned project sites. The council reiterated its commitment to unifying members, promoting peace, and advocating for the Ijaw cause.
