Mr Desmond Inyamah, the Acting Managing Director, of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company has said the full operation of the refinery would begin in December 2023.

He made this assertion when members of the House Of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on the State of the Nation’s Refineries visited to inspect the ongoing turnaround maintenance of the refinery in Ekpan, Delta State.

While briefing the Ad Hoc Committee members on the level of ongoing work, Inyamah said the last time maintenance work was done at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company was in 2004 and 2005.

In response, the Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee on the state of the Nation’s refineries, Honourable Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson expressed concern over the inability of the four refineries in the country to refine the country’s crude oil.

He added that the committee had gone to inspect the state of work at the Port Harcourt refineries.

The Committee Chairman maintained that the purpose of the oversight was to have first-hand knowledge of the state of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of work going on at the site.

Johnson emphasised that when fully functional, the refineries will address among other things the issues of crude oil importation and scarcity of refined products to meet local consumption and even export to other countries.

He was delighted with the various ongoing maintenance at the different refineries in the country.

Hon. Ganiyu Johnson also urged the contractor handling the project to respect the terms and conditions of the contract and deliver on projected time.
