By Sunday Onye, Senior correspondent
The Executive Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Area, Hon. Andaye Rawlings Dagidi, has successfully secured the release of an Okuama indigene detained by the Okoloba community. The incident had sparked concerns of potential renewed hostilities in the creeks.
Upon learning of the situation, Chairman Dagidi promptly intervened, contacting the Okoloba community leadership and security agencies to ensure the safe release of the hostage. He also reached out to his counterpart in Ughelli South Local Government to collaborate on resolving the issue.
At a press briefing, Chairman Dagidi stated, “I abandoned my official assignment to address this matter, ensuring the safety of the hostage and maintaining peace in our communities.”
The Okoloba community chairman, Mr. Clement Koki, explained that the individual was apprehended after being found in their backyard without explanation. The hostage, Godwin Friday, claimed he was going to work but unintentionally crossed the boundary between the two communities.
The Bomadi Police Division has assured that they will escort the hostage to the Ughelli South Local Government Area, ensuring his safe return to Okuama community. Chairman Dagidi reiterated his commitment to sustaining peace in the riverine communities, praising the swift response of security agencies in resolving the situation.
