JUST IN: Building Collapses On UNIBEN Students Amid Heavy Rain Storm

Many UNIBEN students have been reportedly trapped in a storey building after it collapsed in the state.

 

Congress news learnt that the incident happened on Ekhator Street of Ekosodin, Benin City, Edo State, an area widely known for students housing estate.

 

Meanwhile, the building collapsed due to a heavy rainstorm on Saturday morning.

 

Rescue operations are currently ongoing at the time of filing this report.

 

A student of the university, who remained anonymous, said the university management had rescued some of the trapped residents, though many sustained severe injuries.

 

He also noted that the injured persons were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

 

 

However, the rescue team is still scrabbling for a victim who is still trapped inside the rubble, calling from inside the building for help, meantime, efforts are still ongoing to locate and rescue him and probably others,” the student said.

 

The Dean of Students affairs is reportedly on the scene, coordinating the rescue process with the University rescue team.

 

The management of the University has yet to release an official statement as regards the cause of the collapse and total number of affected persons in the incident.
