Just In: Police shoot protesting Ijaw female student in Edo

A yet to be identified policeman attached to the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, Benin headquarters has allegedly shot a protesting Ijaw female student on Thursday morning.

A trending online video showed the female student who was shot by the police on her leg crying profusely.

Source, said the protesters were invited by the company on Thursday morning to address their concerns, but the policeman among others open fire at them at arriving the company’s gate.

The policemen allegedly shoot intermittently, wounding a female Niger Delta student who among others protested at the company’s headquarters in Benin.

Congress gathered that Niger Delta students had embarked on peaceful protest on Wednesday, following a flop in the two days Seminar held by the company.

The protesting Niger Delta students accused the company of diversion of items approved for them on The Nigerian Petroleum Industry Bill.

Among the demands of the protesters include, blue prints of the approved items and total amount approved for the two days training be revealed.

The protesting students blocked the entrance and exit gates of the NPDC causing a serious pandemonium.

At press time, the company is yet to release an official statement on the ugly development.

When contacted, the Edo police PRO, SP Kantoong Bello couldn’t respond. He promised to call back, and that he was in a meeting at the time of call.
