Kano police apprehend suspected kidnappers, rescue victims

The Kano State Police Command has nabbed two suspected kidnappers and rescued two victims in a single operation in the state.

DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command’s police spokesman, said this, in a statement on Wednesday, in Kano. According to him, a 22-year-old Nura Auwal, of Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, and his accomplice, Abubakar Lawal, of Bachirawa Quarters, were arrested for the kidnapping of 3-year-old Umar Isyaku and 3-year old Aliyu Auwal.

PPRO Kiyawa added that the two suspected kidnappers demanded 20 million naira, but after a hectic bargain, they settled for 2 million naira, while their bank account, names were sent to their parents to pay the ransom.

He stated that police on receipt of the reports, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mamman Dauda, instructed officers in charge of teams of Operation Restore Peace led by SP Aliyu Muhammad Auwal, and Officer in Charge of Anti-Kidnapping Squad, State Criminal Investigation Department, Kano State Command to carry out the rescue.

Kiyawa explained that the team swung into action, coupled with intelligence-led operations leading to the arrest of the suspects, while the victims were rescued unhurt.

He narrated that the suspect admitted to the crime, and would be charged in court as soon as investigations are completed.
