Kingship: Egbema fixes Oct 1 to unveil new king, resolves disagreements in the kingdom

The Traditional Council of Egbema Kingdom, leaders, and the nine communities which made up the kingdom met yesterday in Ofunama community, (the oldest town/administrative headquarters of the kingdom) in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo state to discuss modalities for the selection of the new king in the kingdom following the demise of the previous king.

It was gathered that kingdom had agreed to announce the new king by October 1, 2022 after resolving conflict between Ogbudugbudu and Abadigbene Communities over which among them to produce the next king of the kingdom.

The meeting was convened at the instance of and presided over by the Amaokosuwei, Pa Abudu Poweide Eyituoyor of Ofunama community.

The meeting which was well attended had the presence of the members of the four ruling communities in the kingdom such as Ajakurama, Opuama/Polobubor, Ogbudugbudu and Bolou-Jamagie/Abadigbene and others.

However, prominent indigenes and leaders of the kingdom who were present at the meeting were Pa Abudu Poweide Eyituoyor,(eldest man), Chief DM Bubor JP, Chief JP Owilly, Chief W.B Igbiriki JP, Chief Johnbull Adaun, Chief Gius Uroupa, Chief Tuesday Baidi, Chief Simon Igbedikuru JP, Chief J. A Fidisegha, Chief Lucky Tiemo, Chief M. Abisoko, Chief Kehinde Sorroh, Chief James Ukulor, Chief Andrew Gorroh, Chief D. K. Agagha and Chief Pilot Ekpe.

Others include Elder Edmund Tiemo, Hon. Joel Bisina, Hon. Chair E.D Tiemo, Hon. Jude Ukori, Elder Dickson Asoki, Hon. Spencer Okpoye, Comrade Freedom Atigbi,Engr, John Ekpe, Mr. Austine Osainor, Pst. Clifford Atijere, Dr. Grikpa James, Mr. Agagha Ayebomini Maxwell, Comrade Ebidouwei Miyenpirigha and others.

Meantime, the Traditional Council of Chiefs and leaders of the kingdom resolved that following the gazette, it is the Ogbudugbudu community’s turn to produce the next king in the kingdom.

The kingdom resolved contentions of the Abadigbene Community, arguing that their turn to produce the next king.

The kingdom instructed that every pending court action regarding the kingdom’s kingship should be withdrawn by individuals who are responsible for it, adding that after the Ogbudugbudu community, Abadigbene is the next to produce the next king.

Speaking during an interview shortly after the meeting, Comrade Freedom Atigbi, former IYC president of the Western zone expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the kingdom to speak in one voice to resolve disagreements between Ogbudugbudu and Abadigbene Communities.

He further expressed optimism that the entire king selection process would end in laughter, adding that the kingdom is poised to follow the gazette in crowning the new king.
