A 7-year-old school pupil, Adaeze Okorie of Urban primary school, Atani Anambra state has been defiled by a 24-year- old boy in the state.

However, a human rights group, the Conference for the Actualization of Human Rights, CAHR, has accussed the DPO of Atani police division in the state of cover-up, insisting that the police were handling the case with levity.

The group legal department, in a statement by Barr Francis Ogedegbe said, “the boy is 24 years of age but the police are canvassing the false
position of the parents of the accussed, saying he is 12years”.

It was learnt the incident occurred on Monday Sept 20, 2021 when the accussed, one master Onyeka miracle Onuora defiled the victim 7years old.

According to the group: “the family of the victim claim the boy is 24, while the police and the family of the accussed insisting he is 12, but even if he is 12 the law makes procedure for his trial as he can not be an outlaw on the basis of his age”.

They however, demanded that the police should allow justice to prevail on the heinous crime to serve as deterrent to others.

The police who spoke in anonymity told the Congress Newspaper that the parents of the victim refused to come to the police station with the victim, despite severally insisted by the police Division in the state, adding that the issue of 12 or 24years was not the basic issue.

The police source, said the police was ready to prosecute the suspect but the parents of the victim refused to come to the station with the victim.

The source, added the police would not continue to detain the suspect if the victim’s parents refused to show up by Monday as that was against the rights of the accussed person.
