NBA urged the IGP to get involved and form an impartial team to look at the situation of the unlaw arrest and detention of its member.

Allinor Ugochukwu, the state chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, called on Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to kindly prevail in the matter accordingly and suspend ACP David Ogenyi and the concerned officers in the interim to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation during a press conference at the association’s secretariat in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

The NBA urged the IGP to get involved and create an impartial panel to probe claims of police abuse and wrongful incarceration of its own members.

The Imo State Police Command has labeled the lawyer’s accusations as malicious and inaccurate in the meanwhile.

Henry Okoye, the Imo State Police Command’s public relations officer, claimed in an interview with Channels Television that the lawyer’s testimony is a completely different description of what happened.

But he added that a team of investigators has been set up by the state’s commissioner of police to look into the situation.
