Foremost Niger Delta rights activist and president of Ijaw People’s Development Initiative, IPDI, has expressed disappointment over the continued bloodshed, unabated level of poverty, and high cost of living in the country, adding that he cannot celebrate a failed state of extreme bloodshed and poverty at Nigeria at 62nd.

Ozobo, in his live interview with Congress newspaper on Saturday, said Nigeria is retrogressing at 62nd independence, noting that the country had been left with leaders of no moral and integrity.

The civil society chief maintained that Nigeria failed in all ramifications such as insecurity, education, road network, electricity, poverty alleviation, transportation, and economic management.

He said the cost of living in Nigeria had skyrocketed, adding the majority of the citizens are poor and can’t afford two square meals per day.

Ozobo also said the Nigerian government had been taken over by corrupt leaders who stole public funds for personal aggrandizement.

The activist said the Nigerian military was playing sectional politics, hence could not fight terrorism and banditry in the country.

He retorted, ” I can’t be celebrating when my neighbor’s children are dying of hunger. I can’t be celebrating when the poor man’s children can’t eat two square meals per day. Until justice prevails I can’t celebrate Nigeria’s independence.”

Among other things, he called on Nigerians to rise to the occasion to vote corrupt leaders out of government and the political arena.
