As Nigeria marks its 66th independence, renowned Niger Delta activist, a foreign journalist and commentator, Comrade Ozobo Austin, has saluted High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, Engr. Mathew Tonlagha, Engr. Kestin Pondi and other prominent leaders of the Niger Delta for their selfless service to the region.

In Independence goodwill message released on Wednesday, Ozobo said Nigeria 66th independence celebration was an opportunity to recognize men whose contributions have kept the Niger Delta peaceful and progressive.

According to him, High Chief Tompolo deserved special commendation for his role in “ensuring security and sustained peace in the Niger Delta” and for his “unwavering commitment to the protection of the nation’s critical assets.”

He described the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr. Dennis Otuaro, as a “reformer and silent achiever,” noting that his leadership has brought “transparency, accountability and renewed hope to ex-agitators and youths of the region.”

Ozobo also hailed Engr. Mathew Tonlagha for his “massive empowerment and job creation initiatives,” saying his philanthropy has “lifted many families out of poverty and reduced youth restiveness.”

On Engr. Kestin Pondi, Managing Director of Tantita Security Services, he said his competence and dedication have made Tantita “a model of efficiency and indigenous capacity in pipeline surveillance.”

Ozobo added that other leaders in the region have also played key roles in maintaining stability, and urged younger generations to emulate their “sacrifice, leadership and love for the Niger Delta.”

He thanked God for Nigeria at 66 and pledged to continue to use his voice for “truth, justice and development of his people.”
