Reps 2027: Mulade Unveils 7-Point Agenda, Engages NUJ, Others In Warri

• Says Warri Needs Inclusive Representation

The National Democratic Party, NDP, candidate for Warri Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, Chief Comrade Mulade Sheriff, PhD, has engaged the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, media practitioners and online publishers in Warri, where he unveiled his Seven-Point Developmental Agenda for Warri.

Chief Mulade, who met with journalists at the High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo Press Centre, Warri Correspondents’ Chapel on Monday, said his mission is to give Warri people a new model of representation that puts people first.

Unveiling his Seven-Point Development Compact, Mulade said his agenda would focus on purpose-driven representation, unity-driven representation, people-oriented projects, inclusive representation, economic empowerment, environmental justice, and peaceful coexistence.

Speaking from a human angle, the UN Peace Ambassador and Ibe-Sorimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom said Warri’s pain cuts across ethnic lines, noting: “Pollution does not know whether a person is Ijaw, Itsekiri or Urhobo. Unemployment does not discriminate.”

He argued that Warri Federal Constituency should no longer be described as only Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo, but must recognize long-term residents who have lived and contributed to Warri’s economy for decades.

“Those who reside with us, who are non-indigenous, must be represented and we must plan with them,” he said.

According to him, his representation will be accountable to the people: “The people must be carried along in whatever we want to do. We must meet in town halls and plan the development projects that are best for them.”

He pledged that his first legislative push will be the revival of the abandoned Escravos Free Trade Zone and resuscitation of the Koko Seaport and Gbaramatu Deep Seaport, which he described as capable of creating thousands of jobs and restoring Warri as an economic hub.

“We have the waterways, the coastline, the oil and gas resources and the human capital. What we need is purposeful representation that can bring all these advantages together and turn them into development,” Mulade stated.

He added: “We cannot continue to produce the wealth of this nation and remain poor, unemployed and environmentally devastated. Our people deserve roads, jobs, quality education, healthcare, electricity, potable water and a safe environment.”

On his capacity to deliver, he declared: “Before the first one year will run out, I will change Warri,” and stressed, “I have the quality, competence and capacity to represent the people of Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives through purpose-driven representation.”

The NDP candidate told journalists that the document is a social contract, saying: “I want the people to read the document, ask questions and hold me accountable. This is not a secret agenda. It is a public commitment to the people of Warri Federal Constituency.”

The Chairman of the NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, Chief Akpokona Omafuaire, welcomed Mulade and introduced members of the chapel.

While appreciating the candidate’s visit, Mr Michael Ikeogwu former chairman of Warri NUJ, acknowledged Mulade’s contributions to environmental justice and advocacy in the Niger Delta development.

“NUJ is a window to the world. When you speak to the media, you speak to the world. The media is also my constituency,” he said.
