NiMet Warns Of Three Days Of Climate Change

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has warned of three days of moderate to heavy rainfall anticipated across 15 states.

In its impact-based weather forecast bulletin, NiMet also predicted strong winds in at least 18 states between Friday 6th October and Sunday 8th of October 2023.

On Saturday, there are chances of moderate to heavy rainfall over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Cross River, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Imo, Anambra, Kogi, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun and Oyo State and the Federal Capital Territory.

Similarly, moderate to heavy rainfall on Sunday will persist over parts of Taraba, Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, and Ogun States.”

NiMet also noted that there is little or no chance of temperature-related hazards across the country due to the low to moderate temperatures that are anticipated during the period.

The agency also stated that 18 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, may experience strong winds in the next three days.

The states likely to experience the strong winds are Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Niger, Katsina, Kwara, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, Gombe, Nasarawa, Plateau, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe and Borno States including the Federal Capital Territory.

Also, NiMet has alerted the public on the possibility of “deterioration in visibility” in some northern states as a result of observed dust haze propagated into the country.

NiMet therefore advises members of the public to take necessary precautions due to dust particles presently in suspension over the atmosphere.

Airline operators are also advised to avail themselves of weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
