Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared nationwide strike from next Wednesday, June 7.

This is part of the resolutions reached at a meeting of the National Executive Council of the Congress on Friday, June 2, in Abuja.

The President of NLC Joe Ajaero told Journalists after the meeting between the federal government and the NNPC Limited would continue till Wednesday to revert to the old pump price of petrol as failure to do so would result to indefinite strike.

The decision on the strike action is coming after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared, during his inaugural speech, that the subsidy regime had gone for good.

Immediately after his speech, the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) met with the federal government but the meeting ended in deadlock.

The subsidy removal had caused a ripple effect on cost of transportation across the country as transport workers now buy petrol at a higher rate after queuing for long hours at filling stations.
